Uses of Bisoprolol (Zebeta)

Bisoprolol (Zebeta)is used alone or in combination with other medications to treat high blood pressure. Bisoprolol (Zebeta) is in a class of medications called beta blockers. It works by relaxing blood vessels and slowing heart rate to improve and decrease blood pressure.

Precautions and Warnings

Do not skip doses or stop taking Bisoprolol (Zebeta) without first talking to your doctor. Stopping suddenly may make your condition worse or cause other serious heart problems. If you need to have any type of surgery, tell the surgeon ahead of time that you are using this medicine. You should not use Bisoprolol (Zebeta) if you have a serious heart condition such as “AV block,” severe heart failure, or slow heartbeats that have caused you to faint. Keep using Bisoprolol (Zebeta) as directed, even if you feel well. High blood pressure often has no symptoms. You may need to use blood pressure medication for the rest of your life. Before undergoing treatment course with Bisoprolol (Zebeta), make sure the doctor familiarized himself with the history of your diseases. It is especially important to make note of:

• Lowered heart rate (bradycardia)
• Liver disease, such as cirrhosis, liver failure, or hepatitis
• Heart failure
• Chest pain (angina)
• Kidney failure and other kidney diseases (e.g. renal failure)
• Diabetes
• Heart block
• Hyperthyroidism
• Chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD)
• Sick sinus syndrome
• Asthma
• Scheduled surgery
• Any allergies

Along with that, inform your doctor if you are:

• Breastfeeding
• Pregnant or planning pregnancy

Do not omit telling your doctor about all other medications you are currently taking, mentioning prescription and nonprescription ones, herbal additives, and vitamins.

Dosage

The dose of Bisoprolol (Zebeta) is individualized to the needs of the patient, ranging from 2.5 to 20 mg once daily.

Side Effects 

Common  side effects :

• headache;
• feeling tired;
• sleep problems (insomnia);
• joint pain;
• swelling; or
• cold symptoms such as stuffy nose, runny nose, cough, sore throat.

Get emergency medical help if you have signs of an allergic reaction to Bisoprolol (Zebeta): hives; difficult breathing; swelling of your face, lips, tongue, or throat. Call your doctor at once if you have:

• shortness of breath (even with mild exertion), swelling, rapid weight gain;
• slow heart rate;
• pounding heartbeats or fluttering in your chest;
• numbness, tingling, or cold feeling in your hands or feet;
• a light-headed feeling, like you might pass out;
• eye pain, vision problems; or
• bronchospasm (wheezing, chest tightness, trouble breathing).
