Uses of Isoptin SR

 Isoptin SR, which contains the active ingredient verapamil, is classified as a member of the medication class known as calcium channel blockers. It is primarily utilized for the treatment of mild-to-moderate hypertension (high blood pressure) when beta-blockers or diuretics are unsuitable or have resulted in intolerable side effects. Isoptin SR functions by relaxing blood vessels, thereby controlling blood pressure and minimizing the frequency of angina attacks. 

Precautions and Warnings

 Before starting treatment with Isoptin SR, it’s crucial to consider several precautions and warnings. Individuals should avoid using this medication if they have a known allergy to verapamil or any of its components. 

 Isoptin SR is contraindicated in patients with severe congestive heart failure, severe left ventricular dysfunction, very low heart rate, specific abnormal heart rhythms, second- or third-degree heart block, severe low blood pressure, sick sinus syndrome, or if they are taking medications such as ivabradine or flibanserin. 

 Dosage

 The recommended dosage of Isoptin SR varies depending on the condition being treated and the specific formulation used. 

 Typically, for most conditions, adults are advised to take 80 mg to 120 mg of the medication 3 or 4 times daily with food, with a maximum daily dosage not exceeding 480 mg. However, certain cardiac conditions may necessitate higher doses, ranging from 600 mg to 720 mg daily.
