Uses of Prezcobix
Prezcobix contains a combination of darunavir and cobicistat. Darunavir is an antiviral medicine that prevents human immunodeficiency virus (HIV) from multiplying in your body. Cobicistat reduces the action of enzymes in your liver that break down certain antiviral medicines. This allows the antiviral medicines to be used more safely and effectively at lower doses.
Prezcobix is a combination medicine given together with other antiviral medicines to treat human immunodeficiency virus (HIV) in adults, the virus that can cause acquired immunodeficiency syndrome (AIDS).
Prezcobix is not a cure for HIV or AIDS.
Prezcobix is for use in adults and children who weigh at least 40 kg.
Precautions and Warnings
Before taking darunavir/cobicistat, tell your doctor or pharmacist if you are allergic to either of the medications; or if you have any other allergies. This product may contain inactive ingredients, which can cause allergic reactions or other problems. Talk to your pharmacist for more details.
Before using this medication, tell your doctor or pharmacist your medical history, especially of: liver disease (including hepatitis B, C), kidney disease, a certain bleeding problem (hemophilia), diabetes, heart problems (coronary artery disease, heart attack), lipid problems (high cholesterol or triglycerides/fats).
Before having surgery, tell your doctor or dentist about all the products you use (including prescription drugs, nonprescription drugs, and herbal products).
This medication is not recommended for use during pregnancy. It may not work well in a pregnant woman. If you become pregnant or think you may be pregnant, tell your doctor right away. Your doctor may change your HIV medications.
Darunavir passes into breast milk. It is unknown if cobicistat passes into breast milk. Because breast milk may transmit HIV, consult your doctor before breastfeeding.
Dosage
Prezcobix is taken by mouth as a tablet. Each Prezcobix tablet contains 800 mg of darunavir and 150 mg of cobicistat. The recommended dosage of Prezcobix for adults and children weighing at least 40 kg is one tablet once daily.
