Uses of Timolol

Ophthalmic Timolol is used to treat glaucoma, specifically open-angle glaucoma, and ocular hypertension. By decreasing pressure in the eye, Timolol helps prevent gradual vision loss. It is also sometimes prescribed for other uses, such as treating infantile hemangiomas.

Precautions and Warnings

Before using Timolol:

1. Inform your doctor if you are allergic to Timolol, other beta-blockers, or any other medications.
2. Disclose any history of heart, lung, thyroid diseases, diabetes, or myasthenia gravis.
3. Should you be using another topical eye medication, administer it at least 10 minutes before or after Timolol.

Dosage/Direction of Use

Timolol is available as a solution (liquid) and an extended-release gel-forming solution. For eye drops, instill one drop in the affected eye(s) once or twice daily, as prescribed by your doctor. For the gel-forming solution, use it once daily. Follow these steps for application:

1. Wash hands thoroughly.
2. If using the gel-forming solution, invert and shake once.
3. Tilt your head back, pull down the lower eyelid to create a pocket, and instill the drop.
4. Close your eyes for 2-3 minutes, applying gentle pressure to the tear duct.
5. Make sure the dropper tip does not touch any surface, and tightly recap the bottle after each use.
