Uses of 3TC
3TC is an antiretroviral medicine for treating the human immunodeficiency virus (HIV). It comes as a tablet and oral solution, making it easy for adults and children to consume. Doctors often prescribe 3TC with zidovudine and abacavir.
3TC is part of a group of drugs called nucleoside reverse transcriptase inhibitors (NRTIs). It functions by reducing the amount of HIV present in infected individuals. It is available under Lamivudine, Heptovir, Lamivir, and Lamivir HBV.

Dosage
The following includes the recommended dosage for 3TC:
Adults & Children:
- Take 300 mg of 3TC daily or 150 mg twice daily.
Pediatrics:
- For pediatrics weighing at least 20 kg but less than 25 kg, the recommended dosage is 225 mg daily.
- For pediatrics weighing at least 14 kg but less than 20 kg, the dosage is 150 mg daily.
Note: 3TC can be consumed once or twice daily – orally. Take this medicine at the same time each day. Follow the instructions provided by the doctor to ensure a successful treatment.
