Lotemax Ophthalmic Drops, containing loteprednol etabonate, belong to the class of corticosteroids. They are primarily used to treat eye inflammation after cataract surgery by reducing inflammation in the eye. These drops help manage post-operative inflammation and its associated symptoms, such as redness, swelling, and discomfort in the eye.

Precautions and Warnings

Here are some precautions and warnings associated with Lotemax Ophthalmic Drops:

• Avoid using Lotemax Ophthalmic Drops if you are allergic to loteprednol or any of its ingredients. Also, if you’re allergic to corticosteroids like prednisone, prednisolone, or dexamethasone, it’s advisable to steer clear of this medication.
• Don’t wear contact lenses while using Lotemax, as some formulations of these drops contain preservatives that may discolor soft contact lenses.
• Lotemax Drops may temporarily blur vision after application. Avoid driving until your vision returns to normal. If persistent vision changes occur, consult your doctor promptly.

Direction of Use

The typical dosage for Lotemax Ophthalmic Drops involves administering 1 to 2 drops into the conjunctival sac (the space between the eyeball and the eyelid) of the operated eye(s) four times daily.

This treatment usually begins 24 hours after surgery and continues for approximately two weeks post-surgery.

Before applying the drops, wash your hands thoroughly with soap and warm water. When using the eye drops, take care to avoid allowing the dropper tip to touch any surface, including your eyes or fingers. If you’re using other eye medications, it’s advisable to wait at least 10 minutes before applying them after Lotemax.
