Lorbrena

Lorbrena is a prescription medicine that is used to treat adults with non-small cell lung cancer (NSCLC) that is caused by an abnormal anaplastic lymphoma kinase (ALK) gene and that has spread to other parts of the body.

Benefits

• Targets and blocks the abnormal ALK gene that drives cancer growth.
• Slows or stops the spread of lung cancer.
• Works in patients whose cancer has spread to the brain.
• Oral treatment — no need for hospital infusions.

Dosage

• The usual dose is 100 mg once daily.
• Should be taken at the same time every day.
• Can be taken with or without food.
• Tablets should be swallowed whole with water — do not crush, split, or chew.

Warnings and Precautions

• May affect cholesterol and triglyceride levels — regular blood tests are needed.
• Can cause swelling in the brain (CNS effects) such as mood changes or memory issues.
• Use with caution if you have liver problems or seizures.
• Not safe during pregnancy or breastfeeding — use effective contraception.
• Inform your doctor about all other medicines or supplements you are using.

Usage Instructions

• Take once a day at the same time.
• Do not change the dose unless your doctor tells you to.
• If you miss a dose and it’s been less than 4 hours, take it. If more than 4 hours, skip it and take the next dose at the usual time.
• Do not take two doses at once to make up for a missed dose.
• Keep taking Lorbrena even if you feel well, unless your doctor tells you to stop.

Storage Information

• Store at room temperature (20°C to 25°C).
• Keep in a dry place away from heat and direct sunlight.
• Store in the original packaging.
• Keep out of reach of children.

Common Side Effects

• Mild to moderate effects: high cholesterol or triglyceride levels, swelling, weight gain, mood changes, tiredness, or numbness in hands and feet.
• Serious (seek medical attention): memory or speech problems, hallucinations, shortness of breath, chest pain, vision changes, or signs of liver damage such as yellowing of the skin or dark urine.
