Lixiana

Lixiana (edoxaban) is an oral anticoagulant used to prevent and treat blood clots, such as deep vein thrombosis (DVT), pulmonary embolism (PE), and stroke in patients with atrial fibrillation. It works by inhibiting factor Xa in the coagulation pathway.

Benefits:

• Reduces risk of stroke and systemic embolism
• No need for routine INR monitoring
• Fixed once-daily dosing
• Lower risk of major bleeding compared to warfarin

Dosage:

• Standard dose: 60 mg once daily
• Reduced dose: 30 mg daily in patients with renal impairment or low body weight
• Start after at least 5 days of parenteral anticoagulation in DVT/PE
• Adjust dose as per renal function and indication

Warnings and Precautions:

• Increased risk of bleeding
• Use caution in patients with impaired kidney function
• Not recommended with potent P-gp inhibitors
• Discontinue before major surgery

Usage Instructions:

• Take once daily with or without food
• Swallow the tablet whole with water
• Do not skip doses
• Follow the physician’s advice on use with other medications
