Uses of Lixiana

Lixiana, with the active ingredient edoxaban, belongs to the class of medications known as anticoagulants. These medications work by reducing the blood’s ability to clot, thereby preventing the formation of harmful blood clots in the blood vessels.

Precautions and Warnings

Do not take Lixiana if you are allergic to edoxaban or any ingredients in the medication, experiencing severe bleeding, or taking other anticoagulant medications. Inform your doctor about any medical conditions you have, especially kidney or liver disease, and any medications you are taking to avoid interactions.

The medication may increase the risk of bleeding, so seek medical attention if you experience symptoms such as increased bruising, difficulty stopping bleeding, or signs of bleeding from the stomach.

Dosage

Lixiana is recommended at a once-daily oral dosage of 60 mg for treating and preventing deep vein thrombosis (DVT) and pulmonary embolism (PE), as well as for preventing stroke or blood clots in individuals with atrial fibrillation. Treatment typically begins after 5 to 10 days of intravenous heparin administration.
