Uses of Latuda

Use this antipsychotic medicine to treat a medical condition known as schizophrenia. It is mostly given to adults and teenagers who are experiencing the said condition. This medicine functions by altering the effects that the chemicals in the brain performed on the system. Aside from that, Latuda can also be administered in treating bipolar disorder to the same group of people. Latuda is available under the generic name Lurasidone.

Precautions and Warnings

Note that Latuda is specifically made for treating schizophrenia, which means that it is not suitable for treating other mental conditions like dementia. Also, be aware that taking Latuda can increase your thoughts of having suicide. If these kinds of thoughts occur to you, report them to the doctor immediately.

Prior to using Latuda, ensure that you have discussed with your doctor if you have the following:

• Kidney disease
• Liver disease
• Hypertension
• History of heart attack and stroke
• High cholesterol
• Diabetes
• Parkinson’s disease

Dosage

Consume Latuda with food. The amount of food calories that you should be taking it with is 350.

For schizophrenia, the required dosage is 40 mg to be consumed once daily. This dosage requirement is suitable for adults and adolescents age 13-17 years.

For bipolar disorder, the required dosage is 20 mg to be consumed once daily. This dosage requirement is suitable for adults and children age 10-17 years.
