Tensinor is used to treat high blood pressure (hypertension) and chest pain (angina). This medicine is also beneficial in treating or preventing heart attacks.
Tensinor belongs to a group of drugs called beta-blockers. This class of medicine works by managing cardiac arrhythmias and protecting the heart from a possible heart attack. These are also known as beta-adrenergic blocking agents that reduce blood pressure.
Precautions and Warnings
Do not use Tensinor if you are allergic to it. Your healthcare professional will prescribe you another beta-blocker that better fits your system. To ensure your safety, you should not use this medicine if you have any of the following:
- Second/third-degree heart block
- Metabolic acidosis
- Uncontrolled heart failure
- Hypotension
- Severe asthma
- Serious COPD (chronic obstructive pulmonary disorder)
- Sick sinus syndrome
- Bradycardia
Dosage
The following includes the daily dose of Tensinor for hypertension and angina.
Hypertension: Take 50 mg orally once a day for the initial dose. This dose should see good results within one week. If a maximum dosage is necessary, take 100 mg orally once a day.
Angina: Take 50 mg orally once a day. The same amount of time, being one week should be the measuring factor if Tensinor is effective. For the maximum dosage, take 100 mg orally once a day.
